We recently heard from some Lindy Bop lovers over in Switzerland who held themselves a fabulous Lindy Bop inspired vintage tea party! The get-together combined three incredible ingredients: beautiful bespoke party stationery made by Perfect Packages, delectable cupcakes made by Flour Power and dresses by Lindy Bop. We can't get over how adorable the mini Lindy Bop dress cupcake toppers are!
But enough from us... over to Tala of Perfect Packages to tell you all about it.
If you are reading this, then you are already a Lindy Bop fan and know just how Lindy Bop ladies like to dress up for any occasion - especially birthdays. Actually we don't need a reason; we make our own opportunities/excuses to dress up! As such, with my best friend's birthday approaching, I used this as an "excuse" to plan the ultimate vintage tea party, in full Lindy Bop style.
I've been living in Zurich for 14 years (though I'm a Brighton belle by birth), where an English cream tea is a treasured commodity. In all my time here, I have never come across clotted cream, let alone a scone. All changed a few months ago when a little tea shop opened, which just so happened to be on my door step! I was ecstatic to have a little piece of England so close.
The tea shop is called Flour Power Cupcakes and is run by a fellow Brit, Malar Ravi. The place is quaint and quirky and screams vintage. Malar bakes everything herself daily, offering so many different cupcake flavours, that I've already lost track. From the moment I stepped foot in the shop to buy my first rosewater cupcake, I knew I had to have some kind of celebration there.... And my best friend’s birthday would be perfect.
As a party stationery designer and event stylist myself for my company, Perfect Packages, I could not resist the temptation to design some party decorations for the birthday tea. Vintage was the key word! I knew however there needed to be more to it than that, and as my friends and I had recently stocked up on Lindy Bop dresses during our trip to London, it felt like a necessity to make the Lindy Bop dresses my inspiration for the designs! Before the day was up, I'd designed lots of lovely stationery items for the party and even decided on the Lindy Bop dress I wanted to wear.
Onwards to the day of the birthday party....
My other friend Nargis and I got to Flour Power Cupcakes tea shop early, so we could set up the birthday banner and place the personalised water bottles and candy favour bags on our table. Shortly after, Aniela (the birthday gal) arrived and she was awestruck to see everything set up in her honour. Just seeing her happy face was more reward than anything else, as she really is the loveliest, kindest person on earth.>/p?
Aniela was wearing her ravishing red polka dot "Henrietta" Lindy Bop dress, Nargis was wearing the blue and red sailor-inspired "Odette" dress with a cute mini top hat fascinator, and I wore my all-time favourite "Audrey" dress in the red gingham pattern, teamed with red peep toe heels. We certainly all looked the perfect part.
We perused the menu, not knowing which tea to choose from the 10 teas which were listed, and then decided to "go British" - a pot of English Breakfast Tea, of course. As we chatted, the way us girls do, and admired all the mismatched crockery in the tea room, we were very soon served our High Tea. Mmmm, the smell of fresh scones drove us instantly crazy!
Malar had beautifully laid out a selection of scones and mini cupcakes, along with clotted cream and jams, on an antique 2-tier cake stand. Everything was uniquely decorated with the cupcake toppers I had designed: tiny Lindy Bop dresses, coordinating with the dresses each of us girls were wearing! This was immediate cause for a photo opportunity before we scoffed our faces and there'd be no evidence of how darling everything looked. I think we got a bit carried away, as we seemed to get lost in the moment as we posed for photos with the cupcakes and got snap happy around the tea shop....
The setting, atmosphere, food, clothing and company were perfect in every way. We could not have wished for a nicer English cream tea, and we certainly went through our share of pots of tea, during our 4 hours of pleasure.
After opening birthday presents and finishing off the last cupcake crumbs on our plates, we left the cosy tea room with big smiles on our faces and very happy tummies. We all knew that was not going to be our last visit, and without realising it, we had already planned our next afternoon tea together.
