Out of all the lovely luscious fruits out there, strawberries are definitely up there as one of my favourites. Sweet-looking. and absolutely delicious, and not just restricted to the well-established notion of strawberries and cream, here are some other great strawberry-inspired dishes to try out.
Perfect to have for breakfast, or tasty snack, smoothies are filling, jam-packed full of flavour, and can be really healthy for you too. Use fresh or frozen strawberries, and then get creative with all the extra ingredients you want to add....Blueberries, bananas, orange juice or yogurt. I've even made a strawberry breakfast smoothie at home using oats! Chop up all your ingredients, fill up your blender, add ice, and whizz away until your smoothie is full blended and ready to enjoy.
A really simple sweet treat to create, but one that will definitely be a crowd pleaser! Grab a big bar of your favourite chocolate, break in to chunks, and melt in the microwave or using a bain marie. Once the chocolate in smooth, start dipping in those strawberries and set to cool on a lined baking tray in the fridge. And there you have it! Of course, if you want to get fancy, you can melt a second bar of chocolate and use a teaspoon to drizzle over the top of your 'berries, but either way, you can't go wrong!
Strawberry Jam Tarts
Such a simple bake that is super-scrummy, and goes great with a cup of tea. You can make the pastry if you want to, but for something quick and easy, ready roll pastry in a majority of supermarkets. Roll out your pastry on to a floured board, and using a circular cutter, cut out the desired number of bases for your tarts. Place the discs in to each individual (greased) tart mould. Scoop out a heaped teaspoon of strawberry jam and place this in to the centre of each pastry disc. Fold in the edges of the pastry in towards the jam, and brush with a little bit of milk. Cook until the pastry is golden brown, leave to cool, then enjoy!
I know what you might be thinking .... Strawberries? In a salad? Well, if we can create a salad with grapes in, we can do it with strawberries too! Toss in baby leaves, spinach, and even some grilled chicken breast, or cubes of feta or goat's cheese. Walnuts would also work really well, as would a splash of balsamic vinegar of some black pepper sprinkled on top. Seek out a recipe that sounds yummy, and give it a try.
Tipples To Try:
This fun and flirty cocktail is the perfect drink to sip on a night out, and can easily be re-created at home too. Simply grab a hand full of clean strawberries, remove the stalks, and whizz in a blender. Spoon a small amount in to the bottom of a champagne flute, and pour in some prosecco or champagne garnish the glass with an additional strawberry, and you've got yourself some awesome Friday night fizz.
Strawberry Basil Grande
Undoubtedly my favourite cocktail in the world, this one is best left for the professionals to make. The delicate blend of strawberries, basil and cracked black pepper make this a delicious little drink, and one that is lovely to enjoy in the summer. If you would like to try making this one for yourself, there are sure to be some easy-to-follow recipes out there, but if you are ever out and about and see this on a drinks menu, I definitely recommend you give this one a go!
